Today in Willits, CA. ,"La Tigresa". aka Dona Nieto, the bare-breasted poet/ environmental activist , performed her "Strip Tease to Save the Trees" at the offices of the California Dept. of Forestry to a startled but chuckling audience of state forestry officials, concerned citizens and members of the press.

La Tigresa was freshly returned from the front lines of the Humboldt County timber wars, where ancient forests are threatened by clearcutting by Pacific Lumber/Maxxam Corp. After the nippy cold weather of the Mattole forest area, La Tigresa seemed relieved to be performing her scantily clad environmental strip show in a centrally heated warm official office.

La Tigresa was attending a 2nd review meeting regarding a Hawthorne Timber THP (Timber Harvest Plan). The meeting was open to the public, but according to Charlie Martin of CDF it was not a "public meeting" therefore he restricted the public from videotaping the meeting, claiming that it would be disruptive. During a break in the meeting "La Tigresa" who was fully clothed, requested to be allowed to say a poem.

Mr Martin agreed. She then unzipped her blouse and began her poem. She was wearing a leopard skin bra underneath, "California Dept. of Forestry, I am here to Bust you for not doing your duty..." You should be protecting California's natural resources not kissing the timber industry's booty."

She then unwrapped her faux tigerskin skirt to reveal leopard-skin panties. over fishnet stockings and high-heeled black boots. Charlie Martin blushed and walked out of the room. Another private meeting was happening down the hall behind closed doors.

It was between CDF, represented by Bill Snyder, a Parks & Rec. official, and the Forester for THP# 364 which is the controversial plan adjacent to Montgomery Woods, home of the 2 tallest trees in the world. After the meeting was over, "La Tigresa" and her "Goddess Squadess" spoke amiably with Bill Snyder (the man who has final approval of this THP) on the front steps of CDF.

"La Tigresa" very politely asked if she could say a poem for Mr Snyder, he agreed as long as she remained clothed. Again "La Tigresa" busted out with her poem and stripped down to her lepoard skin bikini underwear. Mr Snyder had a swell sense of humor about it all and there were smiles all around.
As she stripped off her long black satin gloves La Tigresa chanted, "In Northern California the Coho salmon are almost extinct' Their habitat has been stripped away -won't someone please stop and think?! Nearly ninety eight percent of California's ancient forests have been cut' Don't you think it's time to stop kissing the timber industry's butt?"

Demurely draping her tiger-striped sarong around her bikini-clad body, La Tigresa concluded her poem with the lines " Please save the salmon and the world's tallest trees' This message has been brought to you by your Mother, the Earth and the Goddess Squadess Department of Strip Tease!"

La Tigresa has been receiving increasing international media attention, from interviews with the BBC to Hollywood TV appearances.

She vows to continue to keep the public abreast of the latest developments in the crusade to save California's remaining old growth forests and to protect endangered species that live and spawn there.
